We know the best part of a clean home is having a fresh scent. Of course, you can achieve that without cleaning. We are sharing our formula so you can create your very own scent spray at home.
Supplies
You will need:
- 4 oz. spray bottle
- Tablespoon
- Essential Oils
- Pipette
- Distilled water (filtered water will work just fine)
- Isopropyl Alcohol or Witch Hazel
- Funnel or cup with a lip to pour
Why make my own?
Though, it’s much easier to buy your own premade scent spray from any store, you should be cautious. Most contain “fragrance” which is code for a proprietary blend of “scent” chemicals, solvents, stabilizers, dyes, preservatives, and UV-absorbers (1). Because companies don’t want to give away their trade secrets, they don’t have to share each individual ingredient. That is why they are able to use the umbrella name “fragrance.” According to the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) there are 3,999 chemicals used to create “fragrance” (2). By creating your own scent spray you are able to know the exact ingredients and can determine what is safe for you.
Let’s get started!
First, pick whichever essential oils you want to add. If you are looking for a Spring scent, check out our suggestions here. Add about 30 drops of essential oils. In the TikTok video above, we added 10 drops of lemongrass, 8 drops of eucalyptus, and 12 drops of lavender. Next, add 2 tablespoons of either isopropyl alcohol or witch hazel. Swirl the bottle around the bottle to mix the ingredients. Finally, fill the rest of the bottle with water.
Quick tip: Never add the essential oils straight into water because the oils will not mix properly and will float right to the top.
That’s it! This simple mixture is an easy one to recreate time and time again with different essential oils to achieve new, fresh scents. Happy mixing!
